Director
Brenda Kay Fowler is a graduate of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She holds a masters degree in elementary education with a minor in Special Ed. Mrs. Fowler also earned Certification in Mid-Management from Southwest Texas State University. Mrs. Fowler has been involved in education for 34 years. She has taught grades Kindergarten through six, served as school administrator at the elementary, middle and high school levels in the Huntsville and Austin Independent School Districts and Director of Student Support Services for the Round Rock Independent School District. Currently, Mrs. Fowler is the Director of the Mt. Sinai Christian Academy. Mrs. Fowler is also pursuing a doctoral degree in educational administration at the University of Texas in Austin.

Mrs. Fowler has been married for 21 years to Ronald Fowler. They are the proud parents of three sons. Mrs. Fowler loves her “Babies” and believes that her work here at MSCA is a calling from God that she chooses to obey.

Leticia Tovar is the Lead Teacher for the Baby Moses Class. She has over 5 years of experience in the childcare industry. She loves to work with children and is thankful for the opportunity to work with MSCA.
Fronisha “Nisha” Espy is the teacher assistant for the Baby Moses Class. Ms. Nisha graduated from Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas. While a student at SPHS, Fronisha took courses in Early Childhood Professions. She has been with MSCA for two years. Fronisha says she enjoys working with the children, because everyday with the children brings its own new experience.
Nastachia Wilford (“Ms. Tasha”) is the substitute Lead Teacher for the Psalms Class (2 year olds). Ms. Tasha is a native Austinite and graduated of Lyndon Baines Johnson High School. She has five years of experience caring for young children. Ms. Tasha states that having children of her own has heightened her awareness to the importance of quality childcare.
Willie J. Harris (“Ms. JJ”) is the teacher assistant for the Psalms Class. Ms. J.J. has 14 years of experience working in childcare settings. Ms. JJ. Feels she has had the opportunity to touch the lives of many children in a positive way.
Tulullah D. Meyers, co-lead teacher for the Jonah Class (3 year olds), is a native Texas and member of Mt Sinai Baptist Church. Currently, Ms. Myers is pursuing a Child Development Associate (CDA) degree through Austin Community College. Ms. Myers believes that her college coursework and outside professional development opportunities will enable her to be more effective as a teacher of young children. Her favorite Bible verse comes from Psalms 21:1…“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world; and they that dwell therein.”
Anya Wiley is a native Austinite. Currently, she is a junior at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas majoring in Accounting. While in college, Anya has taken numerous courses that have impacted her work with children. Anya has 8 years of experience in childcare. Two of those eight years have been spent as a teacher assistant at MSCA.
Caroline van Sas, co-lead teacher for the Jonah Class (3 year olds), was born in Monroe, Louisiana. She is a graduate of University of Louisiana at Monroe, and holds a masters degree in education from Indiana Weslegan University. Ms. Caroline achieved the honor of Outstanding Professional of her master’s degree cohort group. She believes that her being a parent and her various job positions has contributed to her special methodology of using the calm, patient approach when dealing with children.
Lilia Rigal, teacher assistant, joined MSCA as a member of the Austin Independent School District (AISD) and MSCA collaborative in the fall of 2005. Ms. Rigal has worked with AISD for over 5 years. She attended Laredo and Austin Community Colleges. Ms. Rigal feels grateful and fortunate to have the opportunity to work with MSCA.
Ellen Evans, co-lead teacher for the Ruth Class (3 year olds), was born and raised in Austin. She attended and graduated from McCallum High School and later Texas A&M University. Ms. Ellen has been working with young children for 8 years. Certified to teach special education, Ms. Ellen taught in Angleton and Austin, Texas. Additionally, Ms. Ellen has worked in children’s mental health and in the early childhood intervention (ECI) in Texas. This is her first year as a member of the MSCA/AISD collaborative.
Michelle Cumagun, teacher assistant, was born on March 17 in Houston, Texas. Ms. Michelle attended St. Thomas Episcopal School in Houston for K-12. After graduating from high school, Ms. Michelle enrolled in and later graduated, in December 2004, from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors degree in Sociology.. This is Ms. Michelle’s first year working in the education field as a teacher assistant. As a teacher assistant, she hopes to help children to gain knowledge about themselves and all that is around them.
Ms. Chiffon Neal, lead teacher for the Esther Class (4 year olds), is a native Austinite and a graduate of Huston Tillotson College with a degree in Education. Ms. Neal’s classroom experiences include working with grades Pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Prior to joining the MSCA team, Ms. Neal was employed by the Austin Independent School District. Her most memorable experience with teaching has been helping students achieve higher scores in reading on standardized tests. Ms. Neal truly believes all students can and will learn.
Sylvia Patridge, teacher assistant, was born and raised in Orange, Texas. Ms. Patridge attended Lamar University. She has 9 years of experience working with three and four year olds. Ms. Patridge’s work experiences also include teaching and providing support and care for hearing impaired students. Her winning smile lets students and parents alike know that they are important to her.
Dana Burnett, lead teacher for the Kindergarten/First Grade combination class, was born in Vineland, New Jersey. Ms. Dana earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. She believes that building trusting relationships with students and any immediate family member is the key to teaching. Teaching, for Ms. Dana, is an opportunity to positively help individuals grow academically, socially, physically and most importantly spiritually. Ms. Dana’s hobbies include running, swimming, drawing and playing scrabble.
James Calahan, teacher assistant, was born in Austin, Texas but pays homage to his roots in Camedon, Arkansas which he affectionately calls “The Country.” Mr. James states that he is a country mined city boy . At the age of sixteen, Mr. James accepted his call to the ministry. At his home church, St James Missionary Baptist Church, Mr. James serves as the head of the 1st –3rd graders (G3) and as director for the mime dance group,Genesis. According to Mr. James, “God doing something is better than us doing everything.”
Charlotte Harmon, MSCA’s cook, grew up in Midland, Texas. She joined the staff at MSCA as assistant cook in the fall of 2004. Later that same year, Ms. Charlotte assumed the role as lead cook. Ms. Charlotte has 36 years of experience as a cook. She has earned certification in cake decorating and food management. Ms. Harmon’s culinary skills resulted in her winning 2nd place in at an annual Juneteenth Celebration Cook-Off. In the future, Ms. Charlotte hopes to open her own catering business.
